Questions
Data have been collected in the field, using a number of methods, to answer the question: How do breeding systems operate in the tropics? Is there a predominance of outcrossing or inbreeding?? How is diversity maintained in the tropics, and what levels of diversity are present in different areas?

Techniques used include:

  • Cytological and embryological studies
  • Studying the reproductive biology of selected genera to understand flowering fruiting and seedling establishment. (At this site use the newsletters for an overview of various projects on this topic)
  • Observations of pollinator efficacy

When you have studied the information, practice examples and data from various research sites you should test your understanding of the problems, applications and possible solutions by attempting the extension questions. You may want to look through the extension questions first to see what is being asked before you look at the various sites. Alternatively you may want to formulate some of your own questions and provide answers using information from the sites. Feel free to send these to me too!!
